Authentic Gran Canaria, Agaete Coffee and Vegueta

Upon arrival of your cruise, our guide will be waiting for you at the port, identified with the SHORE2SHORE sign.

We will begin our excursion heading northwest of Gran Canaria to discover the beautiful Agaete Valley, a privileged enclave surrounded by mountains, tropical vegetation, and fertile farmland.

In this unique setting, we will visit the Los Castaños Farm, dedicated to the traditional cultivation of coffee. During the guided tour of the plantation, we will learn about the particularities of Agaete coffee, its history, and the different stages of its production: from cultivation and harvesting of the fruit to the drying and roasting of the beans.

We will stroll among coffee plants growing alongside mango, avocado, citrus trees, banana plants, and other tropical species, discovering how the climate and volcanic soils of the valley influence the characteristics of this prized local product.

The visit will end with a tasting of coffee and local products. We will also have a few minutes to visit the farm’s small shop, where it will be possible to purchase freshly roasted coffee and other local products.

After this rural experience, we will return to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to visit Vegueta, the city’s founding neighborhood.

Accompanied by our guide, we will walk through its historic streets and squares, admiring colonial-style buildings and some of the most representative places of the old town. We will pass through the Plaza de San Antonio Abad, where a chapel commemorates Christopher Columbus’s visit to the island, and continue to the monumental Plaza de Santa Ana, dominated by the Cathedral of the Canary Islands and surrounded by important historic buildings.

When the day and opening hours allow, we will also visit the Vegueta Market, the first food market built in the Canary Islands, inaugurated in 1856. Inside, we can enjoy the local atmosphere and see a wide selection of fruits, vegetables, and island products.

At the end of the visit, we will return to the port for the farewell.
