  • Activity level medium

What you'll do

Pickup at the port by our Spanish-speaking guide holding a Shore2Shore sign.

We will depart from Safaga port heading towards Luxor in a luxury air-conditioned vehicle; our journey will take approximately 3 hours.

Luxor, built on the ruins of the city of Thebes, was the capital of the New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt and Upper Egypt. It is located on the eastern bank of the Nile River and is the city of the great temples of ancient Egypt (Luxor and Karnak), as well as the famous necropolises where the pharaohs and nobles were buried, known as the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens.

Our first stop will be the Karnak temple, the oldest known religious center in the world and a World Heritage Site; its ancient name Ipet-isut means "the most sacred of places." Karnak is a vast open-air museum displaying significant remains of Ancient Egyptian culture and is the third most visited site in Egypt, after the Giza pyramids. It is considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO along with other remains of ancient Thebes. The main temple was dedicated to the worship of the god Amun, but like other Egyptian temples, it also honored other deities. We will have free time for lunch (for private groups, we can arrange a lunch).

Next, we will head to the west bank of the Nile River to visit the two statues of Amenhotep III, known as the Colossi of Memnon, two gigantic stone statues of the pharaoh carved from quartzite blocks, specially brought from Giza, with a total height of eighteen meters.

From there, we will proceed to the Valley of the Kings, popularly known by the Egyptians as Ta-sekhet-ma'at, the "Great Field", where the magnificent tombs of the kings of the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties are located, as well as some queens such as Hatshepsut, princes, and nobles. Carved deeply into the desert rock, richly decorated, and filled with treasures for the pharaohs' afterlife.

We will visit three tombs;

Among them Ramses I, IV, VII, IX, Seti II, Tawsert / Sethnakhte, Thutmose III, IV, Saptah,

Horemheb, Mentuherkhepshef, depending on opening hours.

Our next stop will be the Papyrus Museum, one of the most interesting places in all of Egypt for the papyrus industry and culture. All paintings are handmade, whether paintings or drawings; you can also admire and appreciate images of gods and many other figures.

We will end our tour with a visit to the funerary temple of Hatshepsut, known as "the sublime of the sublimes", located in the Deir el-Bahari complex, on the western bank of the Nile River and near the Valley of the Kings. This funerary temple was built in honor of Amon-Ra, the Sun God, and is situated next to the funerary temple of Mentuhotep II. It is considered "one of the incomparable monuments of Ancient Egypt" and is dedicated to Queen Hatshepsut, the second historically confirmed female pharaoh; a temple that rises on the desert plain over a series of terraced levels reaching thirty meters in height.

Afterwards, we will return to Safaga port for the farewell.
