The beginning of major global trade, the transformation of a small town into an important commercial metropolis and the richest city in England, the birthplace of the Titanic and The Beatles. A city that throughout its history experienced great highs and lows and has undergone an astonishing transformation and revival in recent years.
Discover the fascinating city of Liverpool with us!
Starting from Royal Albert Dock, passing through the famous Cavern Quarter and Cavern Club where The Beatles began, we will walk through the Cultural Quarter while talking about impressive buildings such as St George’s Hall and the Central Library, which lead us to another important aspect of the city: filming locations.
Liverpool is the second city in the UK (outside London) with the highest number of TV series and films filmed.
During the tour, we will search together for the remains of Liverpool Castle and admire the city’s architectural icons, especially the magnificent Three Graces and the Beatles statue located at Pier Head.
We will talk about the history of the Titanic and its tragedy, which claimed the lives of many Liverpool citizens.
We will visit the Georgian Quarter, reaching the Chinese Imperial Arch, where we will discuss the city’s complex history, built by many nations and ethnic groups. We will see one of the largest buildings constructed in the 20th century: the Anglican Cathedral, built in Gothic style and almost as long as its medieval counterparts, and the Metropolitan Roman Catholic Cathedral, commonly known as “Paddy’s Wigwam”, which looks like a spaceship inside and breaks with the long tradition of how Catholic cathedrals are built.
We will also visit the prestigious LIPA (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts), founded by Paul McCartney, where many talented artists have trained.
We will stop at the historic Ye Cracke, the pub frequented by John Lennon and his friends, as well as the iconic Philharmonic Pub, famous for its architecture and its connection to the city’s musical history.
But that’s not all! In the crypt of the Catholic Cathedral, the Liverpool Beer Festival takes place, attracting visitors from all over the world!
The history of Liverpool offers an incredible insight into the creation of the global market and stands as an outstanding legacy of the mix of cultures and influences from different parts of the world once reached by the British Empire.
The tour will end at the Bombed Church, a war-damaged church that today is a blend of memorial and World War II art gallery, surrounded by… food trucks. This walk is a must-see not only for The Beatles fans, but also for anyone interested in understanding the city’s history in the 20th century and the source of its extraordinary popularity today.
We will return to the Port of Liverpool for embarkation.
