Leeds Castle and Canterbury Cathedral
Shore excursion from port of Dover, United Kingdom
- Duration 11h
- Activity level low
What you'll do
Our guide will meet you at the port of Dover where we board an air-conditioned coach to take a guided tour of Leeds Castle and Canterbury Cathedral.
After 40 minutes, our first stop will be at Leeds Castle which has been described as "the most charming in the world" by Lord Conway. Located amidst a natural lake, the Castle is surrounded by over 200 acres of parks and gardens. We will arrive there before the doors open to the public, so that we can experience its magic in a still calm atmosphere. There will also be time to explore the grounds of the castle, where you will find the Lady Baillie Garden with views over the lake, an aviary and a labyrinth.
Travelling through the County of Kent, "Garden of England", we will head to know the Cathedral of Canterbury. This magnificent cathedral is the most important in the world, within the Anglican religion. The central bell of the bell tower, called 'Harry', dates from 1498 and the crypt of the eleventh century. The guide will tell us the story of the terrible murder of Archbishop Thomas Beckett in 1170.
Free time to have lunch, stroll and explore the narrow streets of Canterbury.
Return to the port of Dover so you can rejoin your ship for onward passage to your next port of call.
