Valencia city tour

Shore excursion from port of Valencia, Spain

  • Duration 4h
  • Activity level low

What you'll do

Upon arrival of your cruise, you will be met by our guide at the port, identified with the Shore2Shore sign.

Our excursion will take us along the old riverbed of the río Turia (today the Jardín del Turia, featuring buildings of great interest such as the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias and the Palacio de la Música), with its ancient bridges and the most contemporary ones, such as the Puente de la Peineta by Santiago Calatrava and the Puente de las Flores.

We begin by visiting the Copa América facilities, which hosted the 32nd edition in 2007 and the 33rd in February 2010. We will see the Veles i Vents building, modernist warehouses, the inner dock of the port of Valencia, the beaches, and more.

We will pass along the route of the Formula 1 urban circuit, running through the Copa América base, the swing bridge (over the new canal), and reaching the Barrio de Nazaret (a 5.5 km circuit).

We then arrive at the historic center of Valencia to discover the beauty of its main monuments:

La Catedral: free visit during a half-hour break. Built in the 13th century over the former great mosque, it combines several styles from Romanesque to Neoclassical. It houses important works such as the Santo Grial, two paintings by Goya, and Renaissance frescoes depicting twelve angels with musical instruments.

La Basílica de la Virgen de los Desamparados: Patron Saint of the city, located in the square of the same name, over the forum of Roman Valencia. A Baroque construction of great uniqueness, with an elliptical plan and a dome decorated with frescoes by Antonio Palomino.

Plaza de la Virgen: the founding site of the city and its history, with the excavations of La Almoina, the Tribunal de las Aguas, and the Palacio de la Generalitat. The Torre de Quart (15th century) and the Torres de Serrano (14th century) were used as prisons during wartime.

Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas – Museo Nacional de Cerámica: built in the 15th century and renovated in 1740. Its alabaster façade stands out. Inside, it houses the Museo Nacional de Cerámica, the Carroza de las Ninfas, Dresden furniture, and the reconstruction of an old Valencian kitchen.

Plaza Redonda: known as “El Clot” (“the hole”), one of the most curious 19th-century architectural interventions. Nearby is the Iglesia de Santa Catalina, dating back to the Reconquest. Its 17th-century baroque bell tower offers one of the most beautiful urban views of Valencia.

La Lonja de Mercaderes: interior visit possible with an entry fee of €1 per person. One of the most outstanding examples of civil Gothic architecture in Europe (15th century), declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

Mercado Central: a Modernist building (1914–1928), one of the largest in Europe, with more than 8,000 m² of surface.

During the walking tour, we will also see façades of churches such as Iglesia de los Santos Juanes, located in the Barrio del Mercat, considered the second most important church after the Cathedral.

At the end of the excursion, return to the port and farewell.
