Visit Guimaraes

Shore excursion from port of Porto, Portugal

  • Duration 4h 30min
  • Activity level low

What you'll do

Our guide will meet you at the port of Guimaraes with a shore2shore sign.

We will arrive in Guimaraes after 45 mns, a modern city that has proudly maintained its heritage, preserving its historic architecture (its buildings exemplify the development of Portuguese architecture from the 15th to the 19th century).

Visit of the Kings Castle, a medieval fortress built in the middle of the tenth century by order of the Countess Mumadona Dias, to protect the town and the monastery from the Normans and Arabs attacks.

Next we will pass through the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança.

We will start a walking tour through the old city (the best way to appreciate Guimaraes is on foot): we will see shops, shops selling traditional ceramics from the area and metal works, corners and narrow streets in the heart of the city, where in the main square we can admire the Church of the X century dedicated to the Virgin Mary, with a beautiful facade adorned with sculptures.

Our walk ends at the "Torre da Alfandega", where we can see in big letters the words "Aquí nasceu Portugal", which means "Portugal was born here"

Return to the port.
