What you'll do
Upon your arrival at the port, our Shore2Shore guide will be waiting for you with an identification sign to begin this enriching excursion through the fascinating historic center of Gdansk, a true jewel of the Baltic.
Gdansk, an ancient and prominent Hanseatic city, is the sixth-largest city in Poland and the most important port in the country. Together with Gdynia and Sopot, it forms the well-known “Triple City.” During its peak in the 17th century, Gdansk was the epicenter of Baltic trade, attracting ships from all over Europe to export key goods such as rye.
We will begin our walking tour along the historic Ulica Długa, one of the most emblematic streets of Gdansk. Together with Dlugi Targ (Long Market), it forms the famous Royal Route, where the kings of Poland once held parades and ceremonies. This street is lined with Renaissance buildings and historical monuments that reflect the city’s glorious past.
At Dlugi Targ, a uniquely shaped elongated square, we will admire:
-
The imposing Main Town Hall.
-
The Neptune Fountain, a Rococo masterpiece symbolizing Gdansk’s connection with the sea.
-
The majestic Artus Court.
-
The historic Green Gate.
-
The exquisite Golden House, from the 17th century.
-
The Golden Gate, a 17th-century gem adorned with statues representing the city’s virtues: Peace, Freedom, Wealth, and Glory.
Next, we will visit the Uphagen House, an 18th-century residence belonging to merchant Johann Uphagen. Converted into a museum in 1911, it is one of the few merchant houses of that era open to the public.
Our route will take us to the impressive St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, with capacity for up to 25,000 people. Its monumental architecture is one of the most spectacular gems of historic Gdansk.
We will finish with a visit to the Court of King Arthur, the former meeting point of Hanseatic merchants. Today it forms part of the Gdansk History Museum, transporting us to a time of splendour and trade.
At the end of this fascinating excursion, we will return to the port, where we will bid you farewell with our best wishes.
We hope this visit through historic Gdansk will be unforgettable!
