Shore excursion from port of Gdynia, Poland
- Duration 5h
- Activity level low
What you'll do
Upon arrival at the port, our Shore2Shore guide will be waiting for you with an identification sign to begin this enriching excursion through the fascinating historic center of Gdansk, a gem of the Baltic.
Gdansk, an ancient and prominent Hanseatic city, is the sixth largest city in Poland and the country's most important port. Together with Gdynia and Sopot, it forms the well-known "Tricity". At its peak in the 17th century, Gdansk was the epicenter of Baltic trade, attracting ships from all over Europe to export key products such as rye.
We will begin our walking tour along the historic Ulica Długa, one of Gdansk’s most emblematic streets. Together with Dlugi Targ (Long Market), it forms the famous Royal Route, where Polish kings once held parades and exhibitions. This street is lined with Renaissance buildings and historic monuments that reflect the city’s glorious past.
In Dlugi Targ, an elongated square with a unique layout, we will admire:
- The imposing Main Town Hall.
- The Neptune Fountain, a Rococo masterpiece symbolizing Gdansk’s connection to the sea.
- The majestic Artus Court.
- The historic Green Gate.
- The exquisite Golden House, from the 17th century.
- The Golden Gate, a 17th-century jewel adorned with statues representing the city’s virtues: Peace, Freedom, Wealth, and Glory.
Next, we will visit the Uphagen House, an 18th-century residence belonging to the merchant Johann Uphagen. Converted into a museum in 1911, it is one of the few merchant houses from this era open to the public.
Our route will take us to the impressive St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, with a capacity of up to 25,000 people. Its monumental architecture is one of the most spectacular jewels of historic Gdansk.
We will conclude with a visit to the King Arthur’s Court, the former meeting point of Hanseatic League merchants. Today it is part of the Gdansk History Museum and transports us to a time of splendor and trade.
At the end of this fascinating excursion, we will return to the port to say goodbye with our best wishes.
We hope this visit to historic Gdansk will be unforgettable!
