Shore excursion from port of Trondheim, Norway

  • Duration 3h

What you'll do

Upon arrival at the port, our guide, identified with a Shore2Shore sign, will welcome you to begin a fascinating visit to Norway’s third-largest city.

Founded in 997 AD under the name Nidaros, Trondheim was the capital of Norway during the Middle Ages and is today a vibrant historical and cultural center. With 193,000 inhabitants, the city offers a unique combination of medieval past and Scandinavian modernity.

We will begin our tour exploring the city center, where everything is within walking distance. We will stroll through the streets and experience the history unfolding from the Middle Ages to the present technological era, while the River Nid winds around us, defining the heart of Trondheim.

We will pass by the majestic Stiftsgården, the largest royal residence in Scandinavia, and cross the market square, dominated by the statue of Olav Tryggvason, the city’s founder.

Our next stop will be the iconic Nidaros Cathedral, one of Norway’s most important monuments. With a rich history linked to Saint Olav, this Gothic cathedral is a place of pilgrimage comparable to routes such as Rome or Santiago de Compostela. We will enjoy an exterior visit of this architectural gem and its surroundings.

On our way back to the port, we will cross the charming Old Town Bridge to enter Bakklandet, the most picturesque district of Trondheim. Here, you will find old wooden warehouses lining the waterfront and small shops creating a unique and intimate atmosphere.

Thank you for joining us on this journey through the history and charm of Trondheim with Shore2Shore!
