Ascent to the Pulpit

Shore excursion from port of Stavanger, Norway

  • Duration 8h
  • Activity level high

What you'll do

Are you ready to reach one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the world?

Upon arrival, your cruise pickup at the port of Stavanger will be by our guide, identified with the Shore2Shore sign. Near Stavanger, Norway, there is a mysterious rock that rises 600 m above the Lysefjord: Preikestolen (literally "Pulpit," it is the most famous attraction in Stavanger).

From the top of the imposing Pulpit, you can admire spectacular mountainous landscapes overlooking the beautiful fjord. The Pulpit is a spectacular natural rock formation, a 25m x 25m platform, above a beautiful fjord at a height of 604m. The fjord is 42 km long and was formed by massive glaciers from the last Ice Age. The Pulpit was probably formed after the thaw, about 10,000 years ago. The mountain peaks around the pulpit reach heights of 1000m on both sides of the fjord, offering sensational views.

After a short tour of the city of Stavanger, we will enter the Ryfast, Hundvåg tunnels (4.5 km long) and the Solbakk tunnel.

The Solbakk tunnel is the longest underwater tunnel (14.3 km long) and the deepest in the world (292 m below sea level).

After about an hour, we will arrive at the parking lot of the Preikestolen base camp.

Once at the parking lot, located at an altitude of 270 m above sea level, we will begin walking along the trail leading to the summit of the rock.

Our guide will accompany us throughout the hike to the Pulpit, adjusting to the group's pace. This adventurous hike is one of the must-see visits and is on the list of places for all travelers who come to the Stavanger region and Norway in general.

We will pass ponds, mountains, forests, and marshes on the way to the summit. At the top, we will have time to enjoy the view of the fjord and the landscape.

The hike is very challenging, with a distance of approximately 8 kilometers and an elevation gain of 300 meters. After the descent, we will return to the port for farewell.

We hope you have enjoyed this unique experience in the heart of Norway!
