Discover Western Norway: Beaches, Viewpoints, and Lighthouses on a Unique Journey

Shore excursion from port of Maloy, Norway

  • Duration 6h
  • Activity level medium

What you'll do

Your experience begins at the Måløy pier, where your guide will welcome you, identifiable by a Shore2Shore sign. After a brief introduction to the excursion and the safety instructions, you will board the coach to start the journey northward, crossing the bridge that connects Måløy with the mainland.

The route quickly leads into a landscape of valleys and mountains that foreshadow the region’s natural beauty. After a 30–35-minute drive, you will arrive at Indre Totland, a peaceful spot on the shores of the fjord. Here you will enjoy a panoramic stop of about 15 minutes to take in the views of the water surrounded by mountains. The guide will tell you about the historical importance of these old roads that, for generations, connected small villages with the main towns in the area.

The journey continues toward Barmen, a collection of small inlets, bays, and peninsulas that stretch into the sea. This protected environment, dotted with holiday cabins and traditional jetties, invites you to take an optional short walk and wonderful photographs. During the visit, the guide will explain the essential role of aquaculture and salmon farming, industries that shape local life. After a stop of about 25 minutes, you will return to the coach to continue the route southward.

The tour will finally take you to the charming coastal village of Selje, located in a sheltered bay and surrounded by idyllic natural scenery. You will have approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to stroll through its streets lined with painted wooden houses, visit the fishing harbor and, if you wish, walk to the sandy beach, much appreciated by locals in summer. Here you will also have the chance to use the facilities and, on your own, enjoy a coffee or a small snack. The guide will tell you the fascinating history of Selje as a religious and commercial center, as well as its connection to the ancient monastery located on the island of Selja, visible on clear days.

From Selje, the coach takes the panoramic road south again, passing green hills and small traditional farms. Along the way, brief photo stops will be made, allowing you to capture the spectacular coastline, with its scattered islands and the ever-present sea. The guide will share details about life in these rural communities and the importance of fishing and agriculture in their daily routines.

In the final stretch, road 15 leads back toward Måløy, skirting the fjord between mountains, farms, and small coastal settlements. This is a perfect moment to relax, review your photos, and enjoy the scenery before reaching the port.

The excursion concludes with your return to the Måløy pier, where your guide will bid you farewell. If the ship’s schedule allows, you may still have time for a short walk through the city center before boarding again.
