Trani is a beautiful city, also known as the pearl of Puglia, undoubtedly set in a special environment, with its castle on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, its cathedral, and the history of its Jewish quarter. With this tour for cruise passengers, you can explore Trani from the port of Bari with our local guide.
The history of Trani is etched into each of its magnificent monuments, dating back to the Middle Ages. Its history is felt throughout this charming city and its Jewish quarter. Saint Nicholas “The Pilgrim” and Frederick II were natives of this coastal city, which frames the blue of the Adriatic.
Following the path of history, we will begin the tour in Trani by admiring the imposing Swabian Castle situated on the sea, built by Frederick II in the 12th century. The “Swabian Castle” still stands, despite having been damaged several times, thanks to the rigorous maintenance that preserves its history.
Continuing our walk along the seashore, from the castle we will visit the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, a true Romanesque treasure in Apulia. In this temple, which enjoys a privileged position overlooking the sea, we can admire the white-pink stone walls, a typical façade of Trani’s buildings. The cathedral began construction in the 10th century, although it reached its true splendor three centuries later. Here are preserved the relics of Saint Nicholas “The Pilgrim.”
A pleasant stroll will take us through the narrow and winding streets of the old town, which hold the charm of Trani. We will have free time to discover the magic of Trani before returning to the bus.
At the agreed time, we will return to the port for the farewell.
