Visit to the Ruins of Pompeii and Panoramic View of Naples

Upon the arrival of your cruise at the port of Naples, our Shore2Shore team will welcome you to begin this special excursion for cruisers.

The visit begins with a panoramic bus tour of the city of Naples; traveling along the seafront promenade, the Riviera di Chiaia, the Gulf of Naples, and the Castell’ovo (Egg Castle), where Neapolitan legend says that Virgil hid a magic egg. We will see the Royal Villa and the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station, the oldest in the world and the cradle of the first scientific experiments.

We will arrive at Posillipo, where we will take a panoramic view of the Gulf, Mount Vesuvius, and the islands. Our visit will continue towards the city center. We will pass by the Maschio Angioino (Castel Nuovo), a medieval castle that has become a symbol of the city of Naples. We will admire the exterior of the San Giacomo Palace, the current residence of the mayor, and finally, the Town Hall Square.

We arrive at Pompeii, an ancient and wealthy city, a magnificent and historic example of life in the year 79 AD. It was precisely this year, on August 24th, that the earth shook, and Vesuvius unleashed all its fury on the area after 1800 years of inactivity. The city of Pompeii was completely submerged under lava and ash from Mount Vesuvius. However, excavations that began in the 17th century have brought to light archaeological remains of immense value.

The guide will take us on a guided tour through the magnificent ruins of Pompeii, starting at Porta Marina, the gate to the city's economic and political center. He will lead us on a walking tour, evoking the history and experience of a typical day in ancient times.

Throughout our tour, we will find houses, temples, and villas with mosaic floors and frescoed walls. We will be able to admire the luxury mansions and the fabulous art of the wealthy aristocrats who came to Pompeii to escape the crisis in Rome.

The houses were designed around an interior garden with few windows to the outside. We will visit one of the more modest houses and also explore the ancient baths, temples, theaters, and markets.

Every corner of Pompeii has its story, there is much to see, and you will feel like you are taking a journey back in time.

At the end of our tour of the Pompeii site, we will return by bus to the port of Naples for boarding your cruise.

• It is recommended to wear comfortable footwear.
• This excursion is not recommended for people with reduced mobility, people who require the use of a wheelchair, or those traveling with baby strollers, due to uneven terrain.
• The excavations will be closed on January 1, May 1, and December 25.
