What you'll do
Discover the majestic capital of Italy with this excursion to Rome, specially designed for cruise passengers. Departing from the port of Civitavecchia, our team of guides, identified by the Shore2Shore sign, will give you a warm welcome.
From Civitavecchia, we will embark on a journey of approximately an hour and a half to Rome, crossing the picturesque countryside north of the city. Upon arrival, we will meet the guide, who will accompany us throughout the tour to show us the wonders of the Eternal City.
We will begin our tour crossing the heart of Rome, passing by the historic Aurelian Walls and the unique Pyramid of Cestius.
Our first stop will be the iconic Colosseum of Rome, the undisputed symbol of the city where the bus will drop us off to continue our tour on foot. You will have the opportunity to admire its imposing façade and learn some of its secrets while taking the best photos to bring unforgettable memories. Then, we will continue along the wonderful Via dei Fori Imperiali, flanked by the remains of ancient Rome, until we reach the impressive Piazza Venezia, the urban heart of the city. Here stands the majestic monument known as the "Vittoriano" or "Altar of the Fatherland", originally built to commemorate the unification of Italy and later dedicated to those fallen in wars. Don’t forget to ask the guide about the curious story of the dinners inside the horse sculpture.
Next to Piazza Venezia, you can admire the emblematic Trajan’s Column, a testament to the power of the Roman Empire. Leaving Ancient Rome behind, we will venture into the charming alleys of the old town, where we will discover the Basilica of the Holy Apostles (exterior visit), of Byzantine era, on our way to the Trevi Fountain. This is the perfect place to admire the famous fountain and enjoy a delicious gelato. We will see the Trevi Fountain, but we will not enter the paid area designated for coin tossing, as our visit will be exterior only.
We will continue strolling through the streets of the historic center where we will find a large number of noble palaces and churches. We will arrive at Spanish Square, one of the most famous squares in Rome, which houses the Barcaccia Fountain in Baroque style and the monumental Spanish Steps of Trinità dei Monti. We will pass by the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See.
Walking through Piazza Colonna, where we will contemplate the Column of Marcus Aurelius and the Palazzo Montecitorio, seat of the Chamber of Deputies. We will continue until we reach the imposing Pantheon, one of the architectural jewels of the city.
Our next stop will be Piazza Navona, the grandest of the Renaissance squares, where you can admire its fountains and vibrant atmosphere. After a brief pause for photos, we will return to our bus to head back to Civitavecchia, after having enjoyed a magical day, suspended in time, between the splendor of the Empire and the grandeur of the Papacy, in the most beautiful city in the world.
