Lecce, the Baroque city

Let the city of Lecce captivate you during your cruise stop at the port of Brindisi. Lecce, also known as the "Baroque Florence," originally Messapian (Greek-Cretan) and even Roman. Its history is long and rich, and its beauty undeniable—or not? You can decide with this special excursion for cruisers.

Our guide will be waiting for you at the port of Brindisi, identified by the Shore2Shore sign. The tour begins at Sant'Oronzo Square, home to one of the most important Roman ruins and the most characteristic image of Lecce.

This amphitheater dates back to the 1st century BC and has 25,000 seats. It features a very striking element, the Roman column of Sant'Oronz, which marked the end of the Via Appia in Brindisi and was later donated to Lecce.

The "Porta Napoli" is Lecce’s triumphal arch and welcomes us, marking the entrance to the historic center of the city. From here, we will walk a few meters to the Church of Santa Croce, whose Baroque façade is as exuberant as its Renaissance interior is austere.

Next to the church is the Palazzo del Governo, the current town hall. We continue our stroll through the peculiar and narrow alleys of the old town, which reveal sinuous shapes with wrought iron balustrades, gentle arches, and amber street lamps that give Lecce its very special character.

Let yourself be enchanted by the Baroque façade of the Cathedral in the Piazza Duomo from the 17th century, where a mix of forms and styles come together, the result of the architectural presence of the Cathedral, the Diocesan Museum, and the Episcopal Palace.

Before saying goodbye and passing again through the Porta Napoli to leave Lecce, we will have free time to enjoy the charm of this magnificent city at our own pace.

Upon returning to the port of Brindisi, the cruiser excursion in Lecce will come to an end.
