Dynjandi Waterfall: Natural Wonder of the Westfjords
Shore excursion from port of Isafjordur, Iceland
- Duration 3h
- Activity level medium
What you'll do
Welcome to the WESTFJORDS, the fjords of the West.
Pickup at the port by our guide identified with the Shore2Shore sign. Isafjordur offers many interesting options for a relaxed and memorable day in the Westfjords.
The highlight of our tour today is the majestic beauty of the Dynjandi waterfall, one of the most beautiful in Iceland and an icon of the Westfjords.
On the way to Dynjandi, we will pass through some of the most beautiful fjords and charming fishing villages in Iceland.
Geologically considered the oldest part of Iceland, Önundarfjörður has a unique golden beach and a dune system that is a protected nesting site for the eider duck.
Dýrafjörður is rich in flora, fauna, history, and geological wonders, and it also hosts the highest mountains in the Westfjords.
We take the new tunnel at the foot of Dýrafjörður. Before the tunnel opened in autumn 2020, the only connection between the northern and southern Westfjords was a treacherous mountain pass accessible only in summer.
Dynjandi is located at the bottom of the Dynjandisvogur creek, in Arnarfjörður, one of the longest fjords in Iceland, stretching 30 km.
Actually, a series of seven waterfalls that fall like a bridal veil from the edge of a cliff, Dynjandi will leave you breathless. The river originates in Lake Eyjavatn, in the Gláma moorlands, considered a glacier until the late 19th century. We stop for an hour to enjoy the waterfall and the landscape. You can take a short walk to admire the tallest waterfall up close, and the view of the fjord and surrounding mountains.
At the end of the tour, return to the port and farewell.
