Shore excursion from port of Saint Petersburg, Greece
- Duration 3h
- Activity level medium
What you'll do
Pickup by our guide at the port, identifiable by the Shore2Shore sign, to begin this amazing walking tour of Thessaloniki, where you will discover the city’s history, legends, and modern-day life.
Once we arrive at Aristotelous Square, located on Nikis Avenue in the city center, we’ll see why it is considered the main square of the city. It is full of terraces, both along the avenue and in the square itself, where people enjoy the atmosphere and the local gastronomy.
The square was designed by the French architect Ernest Hébrard in 1918, although most of the buildings were constructed in the 1950s, and some of them have been renovated since then.
Interestingly, the twelve buildings that make up Aristotelous Square are listed as buildings of the Hellenic Republic.
The most important municipal events are held in this square, such as the beginning of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Because of its location in the heart of the city, the square is used for almost all major celebrations, including the lighting of Thessaloniki’s Christmas tree and the New Year festivities.
Our guide will also show us the White Tower, where we’ll make a stop to take photos. This tower was built in the mid-15th century and originally formed part of the city’s fortifications. It is located right by the sea and is one of Thessaloniki’s main landmarks, as well as one of the most iconic and well-known symbols of the city.
We will also have the opportunity to admire and take photos of the statue of Alexander the Great, located along the waterfront promenade.
Continuing our tour, we will visit the Church of Agia Sofia and then take a leisurely walk along the path toward the sea, exploring the area of the city's old market known as “Ladadika.”
After exploring this fascinating city, considered the second most important in Greece, we will return to the port for our farewell.
