Walking tour of Thessaloniki

Shore excursion from port of Tesalonica, Greece

  • Duration 3h
  • Activity level medium

What you'll do

Pick-up by our guide at the port, identified with the Shore2shore sign, to start this super walking tour of Thessaloniki, where you will learn about the history, legends, and modern life of the city.

Once we arrive at Aristotelous square, located on Nikis avenue, in the city center, we will see why it is the main square of the city, as it is filled with terraces both along the avenue and in the square, where people enjoy the atmosphere and local cuisine.

The square was designed by the French architect Ernest Hébrard in 1918, although most of the buildings were constructed in the 1950s and some have been renovated since then.

As a unique feature, the twelve buildings that make up Aristotelous square are numbered as the buildings of the Hellenic Republic.

The most important municipal events take place in this square, such as the start of Christmas and New Year's celebrations.

Due to its location in the heart of the city, the square is used for almost all major celebrations, including the lighting of Thessaloniki’s Christmas tree and the New Year’s festivities.

Our guide will also show us the White Tower, where we will stop to take photos. This tower was built in the mid-15th century and originally formed part of the city's fortifications. It is located facing the sea and is one of Thessaloniki’s main monuments, as well as one of the most important and well-known iconic symbols of the city.

We will also have the opportunity to admire and photograph the statue of Alexander the Great, located in the seaside promenade area.

Continuing with our tour, we will visit the church of Agia Sofia and then slowly stroll along the path towards the sea, exploring the area of the old city market called "Ladadika."

After touring this interesting city, considered the second most important in Greece, we will return to the port for the farewell.
