Visit Rhodes and Lindos
Shore excursion from port of Rhodes, Greece
- Duration 6h
- Activity level low
What you'll do
Upon your cruise’s arrival, you will be met at the port by our guide, identifiable by the Shore2Shore sign.
Lindos is the most beautiful village on the island of Rhodes, known for its famous Acropolis (optional visit and entrance fee payable on site), traditional architecture, typical village houses, its beautiful beach, and the picturesque port of Agios Pavlos, where Saint Paul stopped on his way to Rome and blessed the village in 53 B.C.
You can reach the Acropolis on foot, where you will be able to visit the restored Great Stoa and the 4th-century B.C. Temple of Lindian Athena. We will also visit the Ancient Theatre and the remains of the Temple of Dionysus. The view from the Acropolis Rock is unique.
The village is particularly charming, with its whitewashed houses featuring traditional interior decorations and courtyards paved with black and white stones. Many of these buildings, dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, have been officially listed and protected as ancient monuments.
On the way back, we will take a panoramic drive to admire Mount Smith (the upper acropolis of ancient Rhodes), named after Admiral Sir Sidney Smith, who used this viewpoint in the 19th century to monitor Napoleon’s fleet during the war against the Turks. We will continue to the Port of Mandraki, where, according to tradition, the Colossus of Rhodes—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World—once stood. This enormous bronze statue depicted the Sun God holding a burning torch. One foot stood on each side of the harbour entrance, and ships passed beneath its legs.
Arriving at the entrance of the Old Town of Rhodes, we will end the bus tour and begin a walking visit through its charming streets. We will have the pleasure of visiting the Palace of the Grand Masters (optional entrance, unguided visit), the administrative centre and Knights’ Acropolis (optional entrance, unguided visit). We will continue walking until we reach the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, also known as the Hospital of the Knights (optional unguided visit).
At the end of the tour, we will say goodbye to the guide and return to the port on our own—a pleasant walk of less than five minutes.
