Athens Tour, Plaka and Acropolis

Shore excursion from port of Piraeus, Greece

  • Duration 7h
  • Activity level low

What you'll do

Upon arrival of your cruise, the guide will be waiting for you at the port, identified with the Shore2Shore sign.

Starting from the port, we will take a panoramic tour passing by the Zea Marina, Kastela, and Microlimano, continuing towards the Faliro area, where the oldest port of Athens is located. We will view the Olympiakos stadium and the Peace and Friendship stadium, as well as other sports facilities that hosted the 2004 Olympic Games.

Crossing the large Syngrou Avenue, we will arrive at the center of Athens to enjoy our first stop, the Panathenaic Stadium, also known as Kalimarmaro, which was promoted by Lycurgus in the 4th century BC and rebuilt in 1896 according to its original plan. This is where the Olympic flame is carried every four years.

We will continue by bus to the Olympieion (the Temple of Olympian Zeus) dating back to the 6th century BC, one of the largest Corinthian-style temples, and the Zapion, located within the National Gardens. We will proceed to the Hadrian’s Arch (2nd century AD), which separated the ancient city from the Roman city of Hadrian, the statue of Lord Byron, the Constitution Square, where we will see the Presidential Palace built by Otto I of Bavaria, which today houses the Parliament.

In front of the Palace is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where two soldiers stand guard permanently. Next, we will pass by the neoclassical buildings of the University, the Academy, and the Library.

In Athens, the cradle of European civilization for twenty-five centuries, the city’s panorama is dominated by the rock of the Acropolis. We will ascend to visit it and see the main buildings that compose it: the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and the magnificent Parthenon.

Before returning to the port of Piraeus, we will have the opportunity to visit the ancient area of Athens called Plaka, where we will have free time (depending on the ship’s stay in port) to shop and try Greek cuisine.

Located 300 meters from the Acropolis is the New Acropolis Museum, which you can visit on your own (tickets to be paid on site).

At the end of the excursion, we will return to the port of Piraeus passing along Syngrou Avenue.
