What you'll do

Upon arrival of your cruise, pick-up at the port by our guide, identified with the Shore2Shore sign.

The main attractions of Montpellier are located in an area approximately 2.5 km long and 1 km wide. It is feasible to do the most basic sightseeing tour in one day, but surely after our visit you will want to return to once again enjoy the beauty of this city.

There is a clear landmark: the Place de la Comédie, the nerve center of Montpellier. From here, the Tourist Office, located next to L’Esplanade park, we can begin our route. In the Place de la Comédie stands out the building of the Opéra Comédie (1888), with a façade very similar to the Paris Opera, and in front of it is one of the city's symbols, the Fountain of the Three Graces (1777).

One of the most charming places in the historic center is the Place Saint Roch, in front of the church of the same name. The square, with its steps and the curious murals on the adjoining houses, make it worth visiting.

After wandering through the old town, we head towards the Porte du Peyrou, a triumphal arch from 1715 located at the end of Rue Foch, where 19th-century mansions abound. At the end of the Esplanade, behind the main monument, we can admire the Saint Clement Aqueduct built in 1754.

Another must-see in Montpellier is the Saint Peter’s Cathedral (exterior visit), consecrated in 1536, although it already existed as a church attached to a small monastery since 1364. During the Reformation, it suffered such severe damage that it had to be almost entirely rebuilt in the 17th century.

At the end of the excursion, we will return to the port of Sète for the farewell.
