Shore excursion from port of Sète, France

  • Duration 4h
  • Activity level medium

What you'll do

Upon arrival of your cruise, picked up at the port by our guide, identified with a SHORE2SHORE sign.

Montpellier's main attractions are located in an area approximately 2.5 km (1.5 miles) long and 1 km (0.6 miles) wide. It is feasible to do the most basic tourist route in one day, but surely after our visit, you will want to return to enjoy the beauty of this city again.

There is a clear point of reference; the Place de la Comédie, the center of Montpellier. From here, the Tourist Office located next to the L’Esplanade park, we are going to start our route. In the Place de la Comédie, the Opéra Comédie building (1888) stands out, with a façade very similar to the Paris Opera. In front of it, one of the symbols of the city is also located; the Fountain of the Three Graces (1777). One of the most charming places in the historic center is also the Place Saint Roch, located in the opposite side of the church with the same name. The square, with the stairways and the curious murals of the nearby houses makes is worth to visit. After walking through the old town, we will be headed towards the Porte du Peyrou, a triumphal arch from 1715 located at the end of Rue Foch where there are many 19th-century palaces. At the end of the Esplanade, after the main monument, we can contemplate the Aqueduct of San Clemente built in 1754. Another essential visit in Montpellier is the Cathedral of San Pedro (external visit) consecrated in 1536, although it already existed as a church attached to a small monastery since 1364. During the Reformation, it suffered such severe damage that it had to be rebuilt almost entirely in the 17th century.

At the end of the excursion, we will return to the port of Sète for the farewell.
