What you'll do
Pickup by our guide at the port, identified with the Shore2Shore sign.
We will transfer to the historic center, where we will take a walking tour of the city of Helsinki. During the tour, we will see the masterpieces of Helsinki's modern architecture, which we list below:
Sibelius Park: monument to Sibelius, the famous Finnish symphonic music composer of the past century.
Olympic Stadium: built for the 1952 Olympic Games.
We will walk along the city's main street, Mannerheimintie, where some of the most important buildings are located, such as the Opera House, the National Museum, and Kiasma, the Museum of Modern Art.
Train Station: this building stands out for its architectural design.
Esplanade Walk: it is an elegant boulevard housing exclusive shops and featuring a beautiful park in the center. This park is a very popular area where live concerts are held and where we can see many street musicians. At the end of the street, we find the Market Square and the harbor. This area is very lively, entirely dominated by The Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral, whose main features are the thirteen domes and the red bricks of its structure. Uspenski, the name of the red cathedral, comes from “uspenie,” a word from Old Slavic which in Spanish means Dormition "bearer of God." It is the largest Orthodox cathedral in Western Europe, a magnificent and impressive example of 19th-century Byzantine and Slavic architecture.
Visit to the Senate Square.
(Exterior) visit to the Lutheran Cathedral: a spectacular building crowned by the large green dome which is the symbol of the city.
At the end of the walk, we will visit the Old Open-Air Market where we can buy typical Finnish food.
After about an hour, we will arrive at Porvoo, the second oldest city in Finland. From here we have a magnificent view to take photos of the old wooden town. We will enjoy a walk with our guide and have free time to explore its craft and antique shops before returning to the port of Helsinki.
Return to the port and farewell.
