Medieval Tallinn, legends and myths, walking tour

We will enjoy a pleasant walk to the historic center of Tallinn, where the first stop will be the Great Coastal Gate and the Fat Margaret Tower, the coastal entrance to Tallinn's medieval center. Much of the city's fortified wall and watchtowers still stand as witnesses to past sieges and battles, each with its own remarkable stories to tell.

As we walk along the main commercial street during medieval times, we will be intrigued by the elaborate decorative elements carved into the facades of the great guild houses.

We will see the tallest spire in the world at the time of its construction, belonging to the St. Olaf's Church, and Tallinn's only fortress church, Niguliste, founded by German merchants in the 13th century.

The central town hall square, which remains a vibrant gathering place for many cultural events held throughout the year, houses the only medieval Gothic town hall preserved in the Baltic and Scandinavian region.

We will step back in time to the romantic Middle Ages as we explore the ancient churches, old guild houses, secret courtyards, and narrow cobbled streets of this medieval city.

We will discover the lifestyle, clothing, occupations, eating and drinking habits of Tallinn’s medieval citizens while our guide entertains us with the fascinating history of this area through captivating legends. We will learn how the town was governed and the importance of the guilds.

We will end the tour at the prominent Viru Gates next to the flower market.
