Walking tour in Hvar
Shore excursion from port of Hvar, Croatia
- Duration 2h
- Activity level low
What you'll do
You will be met at the port of Hvar by our guide holding a Shore2Shore sign.
Today we will discover the relaxed lifestyle of the island and its beautiful architecture: from the Renaissance cathedral, the 16th-century town well, the Arsenal with its striking portal, and the city pier, where sailboats and fishing boats sway gently in the evening breeze.
We will head towards the Cathedral and its elegant 17th-century bell tower — one of three towers rising above the many rooftops to mark the source of much of Hvar’s magic: the sun and the boundless blue skies.
Next, our guide will lead us to the main square to visit the Cathedral of Saint Stephen, its treasury, and its bell tower, which bears the distinctive mark of Venetian rule.
Our next stop on the route is the Arsenal, an imposing building constructed in 1611. Inside, we will find the oldest community theatre in Europe, founded in 1612.
Through narrow streets, we will reach the Franciscan Monastery (15th century), where we will visit the impressive Renaissance cloister, the old refectory — now home to a collection of lace, manuscripts, and books — and the church with its remarkable collection of paintings.
We will return to the port for farewells, or you may choose to continue strolling around the city on your own.
